Let me start by making this clear; this is not a case of preaching what I already practice; it is more of writing things down so I can commit them to memory.
So with the “little” research I have done, shooting your shot is basically going the extra mile to get things that you want. Extra mile because you actually have to do some work. As most Nigerians like to say “Great things don’t happen in your comfort zone.”
I don’t know what we have against comfort in this country though.
My most profound experience with shooting my shot would be when I applied for my FCMB internship in October/November 2021. This is definitely a story I would be telling sometime.
Thankfully, that experience ended well and led me to have the most complex three months of my life.
A very wise friend of mine told me that the first thing to get rid of while shooting your shot is the fear that you miss the target; in order words, you do not get the opportunity or you are flat out rejected.
But there is the consolation:
You miss 100% of the shots you never shoot. So go ahead, shoot your shot. It could be professionally or in your personal relationships (friendships and beyond).
Like I said earlier, this is not a case of preaching what I practice. So cheers to us all as we gather the courage to shoot our shots. Hopefully, we don’t miss.
